This is a masquerade gown that I based on Victorian dresses. The complete outfit includes corset, bustle, petticoat, overskirt and top. All are purchased patterns except for the top. The front of the skirt has three panels that are hand painted and hand beaded with pearls. The tulle around the skirt edge is beaded as well as the front and ends of the blouse.

Goodness, that is wonderful. How long did this take you to make? Did you start out with trial dresses?

Thanks! It took several weeks to complete the dress because there were several pieces to the outfit (all that Victorian underwear!). What took the longest was the top. I had to pattern the darn thing on myself using the bathroom mirror, while wearing the corset and bustle. Then I ended up having to cut an sew the top together 3 times because I kept cutting and sewing together one side backwards (up too late sewing!). And to top it off, I waited until the last minute to figure out what to do this the sleeves. My first attempt at a sleeve design wasn't working so it ended being the very last thing I did with the fabric I had left.

If anything, when I make another Victorian dress I have all the patterns figured out! :)

Thank you! :) I do have pictures but unfortunatly none are very good (bad lighting, stuff in the way, ect). The plan is to one of these day get a friend to do some studio shots of my costumes.

Thanks :) I'm not actually sure of the type of fabric. It was a bulk buy, I was looking for something aprox the right color and cheap (~$3/yrd). It's like a very thin satin and wrinkles *very* easily. The fabric that I wanted to use was $20/yrd, but just couldn't justify the expense and went with the cheaper stuff. :)
